Witch Hazel and Grape Eye Toner

Witch hazel is astringent and toning and can be used to reduce puffiness around the eyes. Grapes are believed to have anti-wrinkle properties when used around the eye area. Witch Hazel and Grape Eye Toner is effective both as part of your daily skin care routine, or as an occasional pick-me-up for tired eyes.

You will need:

30ml witch hazel tincture
270ml rose water
100g green grapes

Method:

Make the witch hazel tincture – place 50g shredded witch hazel leaves and bark in a 100g glass jar (a coffee jar is ideal). Fill the jar up with vodka, replace the lid and leave for three weeks, shaking once each day. Strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve and bottle. Discard the herb material.

Put 30ml of the witch hazel tincture into a food blender along with the rose water and grapes. Process until liquid and then strain through a fine mesh sieve lined with muslin, pressing the pulp to extract as much fluid as possible. Pour the strained liquid into ice cube trays and discard the fruit pulp. Keep the eye toner cubes in the freezer or icebox.

To use:

Apply the iced toner to the skin around the eye area and allow to dry. Lightly pat on two drops of hazelnut oil around each eye.
