Aloe Vera Loofah Soap

This is a gentle exfoliating soap that can be used in the bath or the shower.

You will need:

340g grated unscented soap
170ml still spring water
40ml powdered loofah
60ml aloe vera gel
1.5ml lime essential oil
1.5ml spearmint essential oil
4 soap moulds, lightly sprayed with cooking spray

Method:

Place the grated soap in a heatproof mixing bowl. Boil the water and pour it over the soap. Stir until well mixed through. Place the bowl in a double boiler and gently heat until the soap mixture becomes creamy. Remove from heat and add the loofah powder, and then the aloe vera gel followed by the essential oils and stir continuously until the mixture has thickened. Spoon the soap mixture into the moulds (you may have to press it in well with the back of the spoon) and leave to harden overnight.

Next day, place the soaps in the freezer for an hour or two before removing them and turning them out of their moulds. Leave on a wire rack for 1 – 2 weeks to harden further – this helps to make the soap longer-lasting.
